- 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of chicken broth
- 1 cup of beef broth
- 1 tablespoon of Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
- Salt and pepper
- 1/4 cup ground beef Optional
- 1/4 cup ground pork Optional
Pour the vegetable oil into a medium pot and place it on the stove over medium heat. Let the oil warm up until it’s hot but not smoking.
Carefully add the flour to the hot oil, stirring constantly for 3-4 minutes until the mixture turns golden brown.
Slowly pour in the chicken and beef broths while whisking to mix everything smoothly. If you want, you can add ground beef and pork at this stage.
Add the Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir the gravy frequently for 5-7 minutes, until it starts to thicken.
Taste the gravy and add salt or pepper if needed. Once it reaches your desired thickness, remove the pot from the stove and enjoy!
NOTES
Keep an eye on the roux; it should turn a nice golden brown, but be careful not to let it get too dark.
When adding the broths, pour them in slowly and keep whisking to prevent any lumps.
Taste the gravy as you go, especially after adding ingredients, to adjust the seasoning if needed.
If you want a spicier gravy, simply add a bit more Cajun seasoning.
